Lower Back Pain

Lower Back Pain

Lower back pain is the most common cause of missed work, visits to the doctor and disability. It is estimated that 31 million individuals of all ages are experiencing some form of back pain at any given time during the year, according to the American Chiropractic Association. Lower back pain can be caused by sprains and strains, overuse, improper lifting, degenerative joint disease, misalignments of the vertebrae (subluxations), herniated discs, pinched nerves and sciatica. Individuals with a lower back injury typically experience pain, loss of range of motion and muscle weakness. If the pain is being caused by a herniated disc or pinched nerve, it may also radiate into the legs, making walking and standing difficult.

Chiropractic treatments for lower back pain are customized for the individual and the type and severity of the injury. If you have a herniated disc, our chiropractor may recommend non-surgical spinal decompression and chiropractic adjustments combined with corrective exercises in order to strengthen your core muscles and provide you with improved spinal stability. Additional treatments may include acupuncture and massage therapy as well as rest, heat and ice for flareups while you are being treated.
